About Us

The Lakehead University Hybrid Racing program, or LUHybrid, is a student run initiative where team members design, fabricate, and race a Formula style plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. The car is designed to compete in the annual Formula Hybrid international competition held at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH. The competition is endorsed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The Formula Hybrid experience is designed to prepare students for industry by developing their core skills as they apply classroom knowledge to real world problems. In addition to developing core engineering competencies, students will learn such transferable skills as professionalism, communication, teamwork, and project management. Ultimately, this program yields graduates who will become the leaders of tomorrow.
